Gardens
Griesbach Community League is committed to the beautification of our neighbourhood. We are pleased to have a dedicated Parks and Community Gardens Director position, however it is currently vacant.
We are working in close collaboration with Canada Lands to play a role in the upkeep of community flower beds, including those in the traffic circles. In summer months, we can always use volunteers to help with planting and weeding. Interested? Please send an email to our gardens director.
There are a couple Griesbach Facebook pages dedicated to gardening. Check out Griesbach Community – Gardens to connect with other gardeners in the neighbourhood.
In addition, we are proud to participate the City of Edmonton’s Front Yards In Bloom program, recognizing those whose gardening skills bring us all delight on a daily basis.
Rental Gardens
Griesbach Community League is proud to support the Griesbach Community Rental Gardens.
The garden is located at the base of Central Park, along Sir Arthur Currie Way. During summer months it is a social hub in Griesbach, bustling with gardeners from around the neighbourhood and beyond.
It has 144 plots, each approximately 20’x20′. The garden area has been built with access to water (through an in-ground system and rain barrels) and has two equipment sheds. Gardeners are responsible for planting, weeding, watering and upkeep of their plot. Gardeners must supply their own tools.
It is independently operated by the dedicated group of volunteers who were managing the original gardens on the west side of Griesbach. They are committed to sustainable, pesticide-free growing practices.
The original gardens were established by a group of soldiers in 2003/2004, back in Griesbach’s days as a garrison. To make way for development, it was relocated to Central Park in 2015. The new location makes the garden a focal point of the community.
One of Griesbach Community League’s priorities has been to ensure residents receive priority as new plots become available. There is currently a waiting list for garden plots. Please email the garden director to get on the garden plot waiting list.
