2017 Griesbach Summer Green Shack Schedule & Details

GCL fighting to save playground until new one in place.

Yesterday Griesbach residents brought their children to the playground only to find it was fenced off. Workers revealed it was slated for demolition. This caused tears among the children, and concern among residents and the GCL board – as we were repeatedly promised the playground would remain in place until the new playground was open (expected this summer).

Please be assured we have been busy trying to get to the bottom of this. Councillor Bev Esslinger and her staff have been working diligently to assist us in our efforts to delay any actions that would negatively impact our children and upcoming Green Shack programs. As the current park is on land owned by EPSB we are touching base with them as well. We spoke with the administration at MGG School, who were equally unaware of the closure – and are fully committed to help us keep it open.

Please stay tuned. We will share details once we learn more. Thanks to everyone for your concern and support.

Did you donate personally to the playground? We need to confirm spelling of your name for donor recognition..

With playground construction about to begin, Griesbach Community League is putting together our final donor recognition materials.

Below is a list of individuals who have generously donated to the project.

If you are on the list, we ask that you review your name for spelling – and to confirm that this is how you would like your name to appear on donor recognition materials.

For example, you may wish to use your family name instead, include a spouse’s names, just use a first initial, etc.  (eg. I originally used Dave & Angela Neufeld, but we have since had a baby, and wish to change to The Neufeld Family).

If you have any changes, please email Stacy (click here) on or before Monday, April 17, 2017.

If we do not hear otherwise, the name will be printed as listed below. Please use “Change My Donor Name” as your subject line.

Thanks again for your support. We look forward to ensuring you get the recognition you deserve!

Bedford Basin Pathway Update

A number of residents have expressed their frustration with the damaged pathway along the North side of  Bedford Basin (behind the Juno Townhomes) – a favourite walkway of residents of all ages. It seems like it has taken forever to address. Patience is wearing understandably thin.

We looked into it to see if we could confirm when it would be fixed, and here is what we learned.

Canada Lands is not involved. It is now considered City of Edmonton parkland. The repairs are the responsibility of Lear Construction Management. A representative from Lear responded immediately to our request for information:

“We are currently dealing with the insurance companies of all the stakeholders involved to try and get the pathway repaired ASAP. The stakeholders include the City of Edmonton, the developer of the project and the trade that damaged the pathway.  Unfortunately we were not able to get it resolved last year due to continual weather delays and saturation issues – and now it has been pushed up to the insurance companies. It is our hopes that the replacement of the pathway will be done ASAP this spring but unfortunately is out of our control at the moment.”

We have asked to be informed of updates, which we will share as learn more. Hopefully it is fixed soon, as the lakes were designed to provide an integrated pathway system – ideal for long summer walks.
