Griesbach Community Gardens: 2016 renewal and fee payment

There is an important update to this post regarding plot availability and member renewal.

Vegetable prices are through the roof. Fight back! Join the “growing” movement of DIY gardeners at Griesbach Community Gardens and fill your fridge with freshly grown produce

Two events are being held for existing Gardens members to renew your plot and pay 2016 fees. Both will be held at Major General Griesbach School.

March 10, 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm prior to the GCL Annual General Meeting.

March 22, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm in conjunction with soccer registrations.

In its first season, the gardens were a bustling centre of community activity throughout the week. Gardeners produced impressive crops. As an added bonus, several new friendships sprouted as a result of this great community gathering place.

A limited number of plots may come available, with priority given to Griesbach residents. To inquire and put your name on the waiting list call Bob Fraser at 780.456.0671.

Join us at our AGM: March 10th at MGG School

All Griesbach residents are encouraged to join us for Griesbach Community League’s Annual General Meeting on March 10th, 7:00 pm at Major General Griesbach School. It’s a great chance to learn what’s going on in your community, vote (or run) for the board, and share your opinions and concerns about issues facing our community.

Canada Lands will once again be joining us to provide a development update. We are hoping to have someone from Brentwood Developments share their plans for the commercial area. Among our other guests will be representatives from Griesbach Community Gardens who will have a booth set up, as there are a few vacant plots.

Run for the GCL Board:

All are two-year terms. If you’re interested in putting your name in the ring, email Steve McIsaac.

Are you interested in starting a Walking School Bus?

Do your kids go to Major General Griesbach School? Do you live near the cross street of Pegasus/Bonaventure? Do you want your kids to be more active and meet more kids on their block? If you answered yes to any of these, then a walking school bus may be for you!

Studies show that fewer children are walking and biking to school, and more children are at risk of becoming overweight. Creative solutions, such as the walking school bus, aim to change behaviors of both parents and children to help build a healthier, safer and more active community. A walking school bus is a group of children walking to and from school with one or more adults. It’s a great way to expand children’s social circles and give them more exercise and fresh air every day.

Here in Griesbach, we are lucky to have such beautiful, walkable area and we need to capitalize on this opportunity. Let’s teach our kids to be more mindful of nature and less reliant on cars.

If you’re interested in helping bring this grassroots initiative to fruition, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. The more people we have (adults and children) the more successful we can be!

Can you lend a hand?

Good-hearted residents: we need help with a Casino (at Yellowhead Casino, June 9th and 10th) and daytime bingos at Kensington Bingo, April 30 and May 28. All funds go to our playground.

It’s a great way to meet your neighbours, and help us build a vibrant community. If you can lend a hand, please email our Volunteer Director (Click here).
