Thanks to our community cleaners

Last Saturday Griesbach participated in the Capital City Cleanup. We’d like to thank the dedicated group of volunteers who showed up and helped out on a sweltering hot day. Griesbach is looking better thanks to your efforts.

Hats off to the following residents for generously lending us a hand:

• Fran Blake • Ryan Chmilar • Chelsea and Michael Corea • Karen, Kelton and Tony Danker • Kevin and Cindy Green • Henny and Annelies Lamers • Robert and Sierra Lopetinsky • Steve McIsaac • Dave Neufeld • Julie Pries

Special thanks to Linda the team at Westcorp for hosting the Big Bin Event – complete with delicious hot dogs, refreshments and bouncy castle. Residents filled two huge bins up in no time!

Much of the garbage appears to be coming from home construction sites. If a builder on your block is not properly disposing of materials in bins, please let Canada Lands know.

Thanks to our Spring Fling donors

Our Spring Fling Flashback social and fundraiser was a big success – raising close to $3,000 for our playground campaign. It wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible generosity of the individuals and companies who contributed to our silent auction and 99 Red Balloons draw.

On behalf of the kids of Griesbach, we’d like to thank the following donors (and everyone who bid on all the great items):

• Famoso • Corso 32 •  Molson • Big Rock • Hole’s Greenhouse • Lori Olson Johns • The City of Edmonton • Goose Hummock Golf Resort • Jurassic Forest • Boston Pizza (Fort Road) • The Pint • Sorrentinos Café • Edmonton Garrison Golf Club • FC Edmonton • Snow Valley • Mercy Animal Hospital • Edmonton International Raceway • Edmonton Symphony Orchestra • Promolinks Canada • Jacked by Jones • Peter Sandhu • Shoppers Drug Mart – Rosslyn • Taste of Edmonton • Safeway Manning Crossing • Mucho Burrito (North Town Centre) • CWB • Moe Amery • KeyLime Athletic Wear • Tony Caterina • McQuiston’s • Tonya Barich • Save on Food • Cora – Kensington • Barefoot Books • Norwex • Wildstone Golf Course (Cranbrook)

Finally, special thanks to the anonymous donor of the getaway weekend in Kimberley.

10 Spots available in Community Gardens

The growing season kicked off at Griesbach Community Gardens over the long weekend. Plots were bustling with activity as gardeners of all ages planted their crops. It’s the first season in the new Central Park location. Kudos to Bob and his team of volunteers for doing such a remarkable job getting everything ready. Here’s to a bumper crop.

There are still about 10 plots available. If you’re interested call Bob 780.456.0671.

Fees are $25/year plus $30 refundable deposit for new members. Includes water access, use of tools and 20’x20′ plot.

Griesbach Big Bin Event & Community Cleanup: May 23

Saturday, May 23, 2015  –  104 St and Griesbach Road

• Community Cleanup: 11 am – 2 pm
• Big Bin Event: 10 am – 4 pm

Come join us for a little spring cleaning around Griesbach. We’ll provide the garbage bags and pickers. You generously volunteer to go throughout the neighbourhood. There will be a barbeque and refreshments provided by Westcorp Properties. Last year’s cleanup proved to be a volunteer activity for families.

To volunteer for the community cleanup contact Chrystal:

We encourage all volunteers to bring gloves, hat and sunscreen.

Do you have oversized items that need to go to the dump? Drop them off at the big bins provided by Westcorp. Some restrictions apply.

Griesbach residents rock Spring Fling Flashback

It was a night when the crimpers, the leopard spandex and the neon came out in full force. Griesbach’s annual playground fundraiser kicked it old school, with an 80’s theme that had the dance floor shaking under rays of laser light.

Spotted in the crowd were a few Madonnas, a handful of glam-rock headbangers, lotsa Valley Girls, Hulk Hogan, Rick Springfield, Olivia Newton John  and an 80’s vintage tennis pro.

The fundraising team outdid itself with some incredible silent auction items. All 99 Red Balloons were popped until the winner of the weekend in Kimberley was revealed. We’re still working out the numbers, but it appears we managed to put another good dent in our fundraising objectives.

Thanks to everyone for joining us and supporting the cause. Especially those who went to the effort to dress up. A lot of work went into some of those costumes.

A big hand to all of the companies and individuals who donated items (we’ll print a complete list shortly) and to the organizing committee for their incredible attention to detail: Jen Horne, Felicia Dewar, Carl Knowler, Brad Tilley, Dave Neufeld, Milena Ferr, Chystal Norris, Stacy Felkar and Natalie Hanratty. (Hope I didn’t miss anyone).

The ideas are already flowing for next year’s theme.

Congratulations to David Eggen

Griesbach Community League sends our warmest congratulations to DAVID EGGEN for his victory in Tuesday’s election.

As an opposition MLA, David was incredibly supportive of our community, and a familiar face at our events. We look forward to continuing our positive relationship as he takes his new position on the governing side of the Legislature.
